What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by the enlargement of male breast tissue, which can result from hormonal imbalances, obesity, certain medications, or other underlying health conditions. It can affect one or both breasts and can occur at any age.
Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery:
Improved Chest Contour: Creates a flatter, more masculine chest by removing excess breast tissue and fat.
Enhanced Confidence: Reduces self-consciousness and improves self-esteem by achieving a more typical male chest appearance.
Permanent Results: Provides lasting results, especially when combined with a healthy lifestyle.
Minimally Invasive Options: Utilizes advanced techniques to minimize scarring and recovery time.
Common Reasons for Considering Gynecomastia Surgery:
Physical Discomfort: Reduces pain or discomfort caused by excess breast tissue.
Self-Consciousness: Addresses feelings of embarrassment or self-consciousness about the chest area.
Difficulty with Clothing: Improves the fit of clothing, allowing for a wider range of clothing options.
Professional and Social Confidence: Enhances confidence in professional and social settings.
The Gynecomastia Surgery Procedure:
Consultation: Discuss your goals, medical history, and expectations with Dr. Stubbs to determine the best approach for your gynecomastia surgery.
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is typically used to ensure comfort during the procedure.
Incisions: Incisions are made around the areola or in the natural creases of the chest to minimize visible scarring.
Removing Excess Tissue: Dr. Stubbs removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and sometimes skin to achieve a flatter chest contour. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat.
Closing the Incisions: Once the desired corrections are made, the incisions are closed with sutures. Compression garments may be applied to support the chest as it heals.
Recovery:
Initial Downtime: Plan for about one to two weeks of downtime. Swelling and bruising are common initially.
Pain Management: Pain and discomfort can be managed with prescribed medications. However most patients find over the counter medications are sufficient.
Follow-up Appointments: Attend all follow-up appointments at Stubbs Center to monitor healing and ensure proper recovery.
Full Recovery: Swelling and bruising will gradually subside, with final results becoming more apparent over several months.
Post-Surgery Care Tips:
Rest: Get plenty of rest and avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activities.
Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to promote healing.
Wound Care: Follow Dr. Stubbs instructions for wound care to prevent infection.
Compression Garments: Wear compression garments as instructed to support the chest and minimize swelling.
Avoid Straining: Refrain from activities that may strain the chest area, such as heavy lifting or intense exercise.
