What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that modifies the shape, size, and structure of the nose. It can address both aesthetic concerns and functional issues, such as breathing difficulties. Rhinoplasty can involve changes to the bone, cartilage, and skin to achieve the desired outcome.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty:
Improved Facial Symmetry: Enhances the balance and harmony of your facial features by reshaping the nose.
Enhanced Appearance: Can correct various aesthetic issues such as a dorsal hump, bulbous tip, or crooked nose.
Boosted Confidence: A more aesthetically pleasing nose can significantly improve self-esteem and confidence.
Better Breathing: Functional rhinoplasty can correct structural issues that cause breathing problems, such as a deviated septum.
Personalized Results: Tailored to your individual facial structure and aesthetic goals for natural-looking results.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure:
Consultation: Discuss your goals, medical history, and expectations with Dr. Stubbs. This initial consultation will help determine the best approach to your rhinoplasty.
Anesthesia: General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is typically used to ensure comfort during the procedure.
Incisions: Depending on the type of rhinoplasty (open or closed), incisions are made either inside the nostrils or across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils).
Reshaping the Nose: Dr. Stubbs will lift the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilage to reshape the nose. This may involve removing or adding bone and cartilage, correcting a deviated septum, and refining the nasal tip.
Closing the Incisions: Once the desired shape is achieved, the incisions are closed with sutures, and a splint is applied to support the new shape of the nose as it heals.
How Rhinoplasty is performed.
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia or sedation in most cases. Several incisions will be needed for most nose jobs, but these are typically inside the nasal cavity, hiding them from sight. The only external incisions made are generally in the septum, keeping them pretty well hidden. In all cases, the incisions are small.
Through these incisions, Dr. Stubbs accesses the bone and cartilage in the nose so he can reshape the nose by removing or adding tissue to the nose. As Dr. Stubbs works, he will consider how the new shape of your nose balances with your other facial features, including the eyes and upper lip.
Combination procedures with nose surgery
Oftentimes, rhinoplasty is performed on its own. However, if you have other aspects of your facial features you’d like to change, it is a good idea to combine procedures! Buccal fat removal can help give your face a slimmer look while highlighting the cheekbones, while a chin implant can give you a stronger profile.
Recovery:
Initial Downtime: Plan for about one to two weeks of downtime. Swelling and bruising are common initially.
Pain Management: Pain and discomfort can be managed with prescribed medications. However, over the counter medications are usually sufficient.
Follow-up Appointments: Attend all follow-up appointments with Stubbs Center to monitor healing and ensure proper recovery.
Full Recovery: Swelling and bruising will gradually subside, with final results becoming more apparent over several months.
Post-Surgery Care Tips:
Rest: Get plenty of rest and avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activities.
Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to promote healing.
Wound Care: Follow Dr. Stubbs instructions for wound care to prevent infection.
Avoid Blowing Your Nose: Refrain from blowing your nose for a few weeks to avoid disrupting the healing process.
Head Elevation: Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling.

The total cost will include the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, and facility/OR fee, and may include other costs as well. To get an accurate estimate for your rhinoplasty, schedule a consultation with Dr. Stubbs.

In some cases, it will. This usually requires proof that some issue with your nose is having a negative impact on your overall health. For example, a deviated septum after an injury can impact your breathing and even make it difficult to sleep at night. However, most cases will be denied coverage since they are considered cosmetic rather than medically necessary.

Start by researching rhinoplasty surgeons near you and seeing what their patients have to say. Make a list of the top 5 to 7 best reviewed, then check out their websites to see their before and after photos of rhinoplasty patients to see if there are some that align with your goals. Schedule consultations with 2 to 3 surgeons you think will be a good fit and select the one who feels right.

In most cases, there are no external incisions. When there are, these tend to be in the septum, making them very hard for others to see. They are also quite small, so once healed, they are nearly invisible for most patients.

It is best to wait until the nose has fully developed, so people in their late teens are generally the youngest potential candidates. However, if there is a medical need, rhinoplasty might be considered at a younger age. Just keep in mind that as the patient grows, a revision might be necessary.
